Chess Study Plan for Beginners

Today I decided to write about a study plan for those who are beginners and desperate to learn. Before I start let me ask you something that why you wanna play chess and what are your goals? If you are playing chess for fun that's fine but if you want to become a strong player or titled player then you must have to find your aim and then follow the right study plan. Once you have aim and desire to improve then you can do anything not only in chess but in other fields too. Before you study chess let me remind you that chess is not only a game but it's a battle of two minds fighting on the board. So we can say clearly that it's a strategic game not a game of tricks or traps. It's so sad when I see that on YouTube people write titles such as how to win in chess in 2 moves or four moves and teaches wrong things. I am also a youTuber and yes my title is like that but I only show strategic wins not checkmates in four. So another advice for you guys is don't study traps and useless ideas on youtube. Focus on right resources like Chessmood or Chesslectures. And if you are serious already about chess then don't feel down even if you lose or others hurt you. Just study in the right way and get amazing results.

As beginner follow the suggestions which I wrote in the bottom and you will see improvement in your chess and if you feel any problem in chess then let me know.

First step:
Buy a chess board and learn chess notations.
Chess Notation: How to Write Down Chess Moves
Use the link in the bottom and learn notations.

Second step:
Improve tactical vision:

I recommend following books:
Chess Tactics for Champions: A step-by-step guide to using tactics ...

Learn Chess Tactics: John Nunn: 9781901983982: Amazon.com: Books

Method to write solutions of tactics:
I recommend use a notebook and pen and write down all the solutions in notebook with time. For example let's imagine you solved 10 puzzles in an hr then write it in notebook for improvement.

Third Step:
I recommend to focus on very basic Endgames described in part 1 and then focus on part 2!

Books to choose:
You can choose two books depends on what you think but I suggest one of them
Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual by Mark Dvoretsky

2. Silman's Endgame Manual (my recommendation)
Silman's Complete Endgame Course: Silman, Jeremy: 0787721855255 ...

Part 1-
Please follow all step by step all 1-7 Positions.
1. King and two Queens vs Lone King.
2. King and Queen and Rook vs Lone King.
3. King and Queen vs Lone King.
4. King and two Rooks vs Lone King.
5. King and Rook vs Lone King.
6. King and two Bishops vs Lone King.
7. King and Bishop and Knight vs Lone King.
This above task is enough for below 1400 players!
After you finish above task then go for basic King and Pawn endgames-

Part 2-
1. Learn basic king and pawn positions.
2. King and pawn vs lone King winning and drawing positions.
3 Learn opposition.
4. Mined squares, key squares, floating squares, rule of the square.
5. Basic knight and pawn vs knight endgames.
6. Bishop and pawn on seventh rank positions.
7. Same coloured bishop two pawn down endgame.
8. Rook endgames-
Lucena position
Philidor Position
Vancura position.
9. King and Queen vs King and pawn all positions.
I think all above task will be sufficient for below 1800 players .

Openings:
Many beginners make a big mistake by not understanding the ideas behind openings but they focus on variations or they focus on tricks or traps. So I prefer following ideas.
1. Don't try to focus on variations. Try to understand the ideas behind each moves of openings.
2, Focus on pawn structures and levers (pawn breaks).
3. Focus on which pieces to trade and which not.
4.Open or semi open files.
There can be still more in above list but it's amazing. I prefer Chessmood for openings.
